AION 2 Best Class — How to Pick Your Main for Launch

The best AION 2 class for solo play, PvP and raid spots — community consensus from a year of Korean-server coverage, not official rankings.

FAQ

What is the best solo class in AION 2?
Gladiator. The greatsword melee DPS has the strongest solo sustain of the eight launch classes, and its cleave damage shreds dungeon packs. Community coverage of the Korean servers consistently recommends it for solo players and beginners.
What is the best PvP class in AION 2?
Community consensus picks Assassin and Sorcerer. Both are burst classes that decide fights in seconds — the Assassin up close, the Sorcerer from range. Ranger is the common alternative if you also want strong PvE performance.
Which AION 2 class gets raid spots most easily?
Templar, Cleric and Chanter. Templar is the only pure tank and Cleric the main healer, and with 200+ dungeons in 5-player and 10-player formats, tanks and healers are permanently in demand.
Is there one overpowered class I should main?
No official balance data exists for the global build, and NCSOFT has not flagged any class as dominant. Every "best class" claim — including the ones on this page — is community consensus from Korean-server coverage and may shift after the October 5 launch.
What is the best all-round class in AION 2?
Ranger. Community rankings describe the bow class as consistently strong across dungeons, raids, world bosses and open-world PvP, making it the safest main if you want to do a bit of everything.

“What’s the best class in AION 2?” is the wrong question — the right one is “best at what?” AION 2 launches globally with eight classes, and the class that tops a raid damage chart is not the class that makes solo play smooth or wins a fight in the Abyss. So this page answers the question honestly, one playstyle at a time.

One caveat up front: every ranking below is community consensus built from a year of Korean-server coverage — not official NCSOFT data. Treat it as a strong starting point that gets re-checked against the global build after launch.

Two structural facts shape all of it. First, AION 2 ships with 200+ dungeons in three formats — solo, 5-player and 10-player — so group roles are permanently scarce. Second, combat is built around verticality: altitude is advantage, which rewards classes that exploit height and punishes melee that must survive closing the gap.

Best solo class: Gladiator

If most of your playtime is solo — questing, exploring Atreia, running the solo dungeon format — the community answer is unanimous: Gladiator. The greatsword DPS brings the strongest sustain of any damage class, meaning it shrugs off damage that would force squishier classes to stop and recover. Its cleave hits multiple enemies at once, so dungeon packs and crowded grind spots fall noticeably faster than single-target classes can manage them.

It is also the class most recommended for beginners: a wide margin for error covers you while you learn the game’s flight mechanics and chain-skill system. The trade-off is at the top end — in organized raids a Gladiator is one damage dealer among many, wanted but never scarce.

Best group classes: Templar, Cleric and Chanter

If you measure “best” by how fast the game lets you into content, the answer flips to the group roles. Every 5-player and 10-player dungeon in AION 2’s 200+ dungeon pool wants the same scarce slots:

  • Templar — the only pure tank in the launch roster. Sword and shield, mitigation, aggro control.
  • Cleric — the main healer. Sustained healing, cleanses, resurrection. No group content clears without one.
  • Chanter — the hybrid support. Mantra buffs and off-healing that plug the gap when the Cleric is stretched.

Queues pop fast for these three, raid rosters always have room, and a year of Korean-server coverage shows demand for them never drops. The trade-off is solo speed — you kill slower alone than a Gladiator does, and a tank’s damage ceiling is not why anyone invites you.

Best PvP classes: Assassin and Sorcerer

AION 2’s flagship PvP lives in the Abyss, the zone where the Elyos–Asmodian faction war overlaps with PvE content. There, the community’s consensus killers are two burst classes:

  • Assassin — hunts burst windows. Closes the gap from stealth, unloads a dagger combo, and is gone before the answer lands.
  • Sorcerer — decides fights from range with cast-time spellbook nukes and area damage.

Both are fragile and demanding — the same coverage that ranks them top also warns they punish sloppy play. Specific arena-style mode names circulating in pre-launch coverage are unverified; confirm the exact PvP modes in game at launch. If you want PvP strength without giving up PvE, Ranger is the standard crossover pick.

Best all-rounder: Ranger

Ranger is the community’s “never a bad pick” class. The bow-wielding ranged DPS scores consistently across dungeons, raids and world bosses in Korean-server rankings, and it holds its own in open-world PvP. AION 2’s vertical combat suits it naturally — nobody exploits altitude like a class that shoots downward. For a first main, that consistency is worth more than a higher ceiling on a harder class.

What about Spiritmaster and Brawler?

Two classes sit outside the main recommendations. Spiritmaster, the summoner, is fully playable and brings pet-based pressure and control, but it is the least-documented class in community coverage — viable, with the thinnest data, so confirm its standing in game at launch. The Brawler, added in Chapter 1 on July 1, 2026, exists only on the Korean and Taiwanese servers with no confirmed global date, so it is not part of this decision yet. The full roster breakdown is in the class list.

Pick a main before October 5

One last framing before you commit: tier lists measure demand and damage ceilings, not fun. With eight classes and deep chain-skill customization, an off-meta class you love will carry you further than a community darling you abandon at level 20. For your first hours after picking — faction choice, the 200-option character creator, and when flight unlocks — the beginner guide has the route.

The bottom line

  • Solo: Gladiator — sustain plus cleave, beginner-friendly
  • Groups: Templar, Cleric or Chanter — permanent demand across 200+ dungeons
  • PvP: Assassin or Sorcerer — the community’s burst picks
  • All-rounder: Ranger — consistent everywhere
  • Source: community consensus from Korean-server coverage, not official — re-verified after the October 5 launch
