FAQ

Is AION 2 on console?
A PS5 version is officially confirmed to be in development, but NCSOFT has announced no release date for it. Nothing has been announced for Xbox or Switch. At launch, AION 2 is a Windows PC game.
Is AION 2 on Mac?
No. The game supports Windows only, with no official Mac version. Steam Deck is not officially supported either — there is no native Linux/SteamOS build.
Should I download AION 2 on Steam or PURPLE?
Both launchers run the same game, so pick your ecosystem: Steam for one library, friends and overlay; PURPLE for the NCSOFT account side. Whether accounts and cross-play interact between the two is a same-game situation with details to confirm at launch.
Is AION 2 pay to win?
What is confirmed: free to play, optional in-app purchases, and an optional membership at around $15/month. Founder's Packs mainly sell early access and cosmetics. The full monetization picture — and whether any stat power is sold — will be judged at launch; nothing gameplay-critical is known to be locked behind a purchase.
What is 'aion 2.0'?
Not this game. 'AION 2.0' refers to the 2.0 update of the original 2009 AION — a common search mixup. AION 2 is the full Unreal Engine 5 sequel launching October 5, 2026.

AION 2 launches globally on October 5, 2026, and if you are wondering what device you will be playing on, the short answer is: a Windows PC, through one of two launchers. The slightly longer answer — covering the PS5 version that is coming, the platforms that are not, and what the Founder’s Packs actually buy — is below.

AION 2 platforms at a glance

PlatformStatus
PC (Windows)Launches October 5, 2026 — Steam or PURPLE launcher
PS5Officially confirmed in development, no date announced
MacNot supported — no official version
Steam Deck / LinuxNot officially supported
Xbox / SwitchNothing announced

The game is free to play, requires about 100GB of disk space, and its hardware requirements are modest for a UE5 title — the full spec table is in our system requirements guide.

Steam or PURPLE: which launcher should you pick?

AION 2 is downloadable two ways, and it is the same game either way:

SteamPURPLE
What it isValve’s store and launcherNCSOFT’s own launcher
Best if you wantOne library, friends list, overlay, playtime tracking, Family SharingThe NCSOFT account ecosystem, direct from the publisher
InstallStraight from the Steam storeVia the PURPLE app

The practical advice: if AION 2 will be your main game and you have no NC account history, Steam is the low-friction route. If you already play NCSOFT titles under an NC account, PURPLE keeps everything under one roof. Both launchers deliver the same game; how accounts and cross-play interact between them falls under “same game, details at launch” — confirm in game when the servers open. Server selection is generous either way, with four global server regions and eight in-game languages supported.

Is AION 2 coming to PS5?

Yes — eventually. NCSOFT has officially confirmed that a PS5 version is in development, but has not committed to any release window. An MMO port of this scale is a serious undertaking, and the PC version is clearly the priority through launch. When a console date is announced, this page and the release date tracker will be updated. Until then, treat every “AION 2 console release date” claim you see online as speculation.

What about Mac and Steam Deck?

No official support for either. AION 2 is Windows-only, with no Mac version and no native Linux/SteamOS build, so the Steam Deck is not a supported platform. Whether the game happens to run under Proton or Windows-on-Apple-Silicon setups is exactly the kind of thing the community will test after launch — but “it technically boots” is not “it is supported,” and an MMO with anti-cheat is the genre most likely to break in those setups. The safe assumption: plan on a Windows PC.

Founder’s Packs and pricing

AION 2 itself is free to play. Around launch, NCSOFT sells three Founder’s Packs:

PackPriceEarly access
Starter$24.99September 30, 2026
Standard-tier equivalent$49.99September 30, 2026
Deluxe-tier equivalent$99.99September 30, 2026

Every tier grants the same headline perk: five days of early access from September 30. The tiers differ in cosmetics, currency and bonus items, not in gameplay fundamentals. Beyond the packs, the live game carries optional in-app purchases and an optional membership at around $15/month. What exactly the membership grants has not been fully detailed for the global build — confirm at launch. For the launch timeline itself, see the release date page.

“Wait — is this AION 2.0?”

A quick disambiguation, because the searches overlap. “AION 2.0” is the 2.0 update of the original 2009 AION — an old patch, not this game. AION 2 is the full sequel: Unreal Engine 5, a world 36 times larger, built around aerial combat, free to play, launching globally October 5, 2026. If you searched “aion 2.0” and meant the new game, you are in the right place; if you wanted the 2009 game’s patch notes, that is a different wiki.

The bottom line

  • PC (Windows) only at launch, October 5, 2026, via Steam or PURPLE — same game through either door
  • PS5: in development, no date; Mac and Steam Deck: not supported
  • Free to play, with optional in-app purchases and a roughly $15/month membership
  • Founder’s Packs ($24.99–$99.99) all grant September 30 early access; they differ in cosmetics and currency
  • “AION 2.0” is the 2009 original’s update — this game is simply AION 2
